How our Refurbishment Works

Testing & Refurbishment Process

A transparent, industry-standard workflow, designed to deliver reliable refurbished tech, every time.

  • Multi-point functional testing
  • Secure data handling
  • Cleaned & prepared for use
  • Logged & traceable checks

Our standardised process

Every item goes through the same core workflow: identify, verify, clean, validate, and only then list for sale.

Technician testing computer hardware

What “tested & refurbished” means at Kraken Bay

Refurbishment isn’t a wipe-and-ship job. It’s a controlled process that checks functionality, stability, and usability, then documents results so the item can be trusted in the real world.

Our focus is simple: sell only hardware we’d happily run ourselves. If it fails testing, it doesn’t get listed.

01

Intake & identification

We log each item and confirm model, specs, ports, and compatibility. Any physical damage or missing parts are flagged immediately.

  • Model/spec verification
  • Visual inspection (connectors, pins, casing)
  • Serial tracking where available
02

Security & data handling (for storage)

Storage devices are handled with strict privacy-first practices. We confirm drive health data, then perform secure erasure where applicable.

  • SMART/health checks logged
  • Secure erase / overwrite process (where supported)
  • Any drive that can’t be securely prepared is not resold
03

Functional testing

Hardware is tested in controlled setups to confirm it behaves correctly under normal and demanding conditions.

  • Detection + stability confirmation
  • Port/function checks where relevant
  • Basic stress verification to catch intermittent faults
04

Cleaning & refurbishment

We clean components to a professional standard and prepare them for safe handling and installation.

  • Dust/debris removal
  • Contact/edge cleaning where appropriate
  • Cosmetic prep (labels, residue removal where safe)
05

Final QA & verification

A second-pass check ensures the item is consistent with its listing and packaging requirements before it goes live.

  • Re-check model/spec matches listing
  • Pass/fail confirmation
  • Condition notes and listing accuracy
06

Packaging & dispatch-ready

Items are packaged to protect against transit damage and static discharge, then stored ready for fast dispatch.

  • Anti-static protection (where applicable)
  • Protective packaging for impact safety
  • Batch-ready storage for quick fulfilment

Note: Exact checks vary by product type (e.g., SSD vs RAM vs laptop components), but the same workflow applies: identify → test → refurbish → verify → list.

What we test (by category)

A quick look at common checks we run depending on the part.

SSDs & HDDs

Health data checks, read/write verification, secure erase where supported, and sanity checks before listing.

RAM

Compatibility verification, stability checks, and fault detection to catch intermittent errors.

CPUs

Socket/pin inspection, detection checks, stability verification under load (where appropriate).

Optical & peripherals

Detection, function checks, tray/operation verification, and basic performance validation.

*We don’t claim “perfect”. We claim tested, verified, and honestly described. If a unit doesn’t meet our standard, it doesn’t get listed.
